Data Center Fluid Connectors · Liquid Cooling
UQD / UQDB / blind-mate / MQD liquid-cooling quick disconnects, from NVIDIA-qualified production – manufacturing partner listed as an NVIDIA supplier – a UQD-compliant second source to Stäubli and Parker. European supplier with samples, datasheets and engineering support.
Netonx supplies UQD, UQDB, blind-mate (BMC/BLC/XBMC) and MQD liquid-cooling quick disconnects for data-center direct-to-chip cooling, CDU lines and GPU trays. Made in NVIDIA-qualified production (ISO class 7 cleanroom, 100% leak testing), they are leak-free (non-spill / dry-break) and rated for >5,000 mating cycles. UQD/UQDB follow the OCP UQD standard and are cross-vendor mate-compatible, making Netonx a qualified second source to Stäubli, Parker and CPC. UQD from €25/unit (<100 pcs); volume pricing on request.
What is a UQD (Universal Quick Disconnect)? A UQD is a standardized, leak-free quick-disconnect fluid coupling for data-center liquid cooling, defined under the Open Compute Project (OCP). It joins hoses to cold plate, manifold and rack and lets coolant lines be connected and separated quickly and drip-free, even under system pressure.
Core technology
Why are premium couplings like Stäubli expensive? The reason is their core non-spill (dry-break) disconnect technology. Cheap couplings release a few drops of coolant the moment they are pulled – inside multi-million-euro AI servers or high-voltage storage cabinets that can be fatal. Stäubli disconnects with "zero spill" and survives thousands of mating cycles – which is exactly why the industry (including giants like NVIDIA) is willing to pay the steep premium.
We master the very same technology: drip-free dry-break design, high cycle life and 100 % leak testing – as a qualified second source to Stäubli and Parker, at significantly better terms.
Knowledge
UQD (Universal Quick Disconnect) is a standardized fluid connector for liquid cooling in data centers and high-performance computing. It connects hoses to cold plate, manifold and rack and provides a fast, safe and leak-free coolant connection via an automatic mechanism. UQD is a core component of the Open Compute Project (OCP), initiated by Intel and developed into an open standard. Even the smallest leak can take down a cooling system or damage expensive hardware – so the coupling's primary job is to keep coolant sealed in its flow path while allowing free flow.
By mating: blind-mate (UQDB, automatic connection, for highly automated, frequently mated applications) and manual (locking via ball, pin, thread or latch).
By standard/use: UQD (open OCP standard, typically two pairs per server), UQDB (blind-mate for direct liquid cooling), threaded coupling (e.g. at the CDU).
By material: high-performance polymer (light, corrosion-resistant) or metal/stainless steel (high strength, temperature and pressure resistance).
An optimized internal channel delivers high flow at minimal pressure drop. Spring-driven or flat-face valves open automatically on mating and close instantly on separation.
The medium stays sealed on both sides when disconnected – no coolant spill, no air ingress, even under system pressure and in tight spaces.
| Parameter | What it means for selection |
|---|---|
| Working & burst pressure | Safe operating pressure vs. failure limit – choose with safety margin |
| Flow & pressure drop | High flow at low pressure drop reduces pump load and raises efficiency |
| Leak rate | The gold standard of sealing – zero external leakage when connected |
| Temperature range | Seal and body must stay stable at min/max temperature |
| Contact resistance | For chip-near cooling, high contact resistance may be required to electrically isolate the loop |
| Media compatibility | All wetted parts must match the coolant (deionized water, water-glycol, fluorinated fluid) |
| Mating cycles (durability) | Quality couplings withstand several thousand to > 10,000 mating cycles |
| Space & blind-mate tolerance | Compact size; for blind-mate, axial/radial tolerance is decisive |
| Maintenance & TCO | Faster server swaps (minutes vs. hours) cut total cost of ownership |
UQD demand grows with every GPU generation. An NVIDIA NVL72 rack of the GB200 class uses on the order of ~126 coupling pairs (18 compute trays + 9 switch trays). With the GB300 generation – an individual cold plate per chip – the count per compute tray rises further; market reports estimate ~250 pairs per NVL72 rack. At the same time the couplings get smaller (a new, more compact UQD generation), which raises the bar on manufacturing tolerance and sealing. Reference designs commonly use OCP-standard UQD from established makers (CPC, Stäubli, Parker). Full GB200/GB300 UQD demand analysis →
